'file San Joaquin County Lnvironmental health Department has requested
additional explanations regarding the above-referenced project.
The first question raised couccmcd the differences in animal numbers used in the calculations on
Page 8 and Page 9. As indicated at the top of each of these Pages, the calculations on Page 8 are
for current nitrogen production at the Quaresttta Dairy, and Page 9 are the calculations for
nitrogen production it Me Quaresma decides to expand his facility. The Pagc 9 calculations
demonstrate that the facility could expand to the animal units indicated, including support stock,
and remain under a theoretical nitrogen deficit. A theoretical nitrogen deficit would still occur
even after the application of manure solids and liquids to all S 10 acres controlled by Mr.
Quaresma. 'these cropland calculations are illustrated on Page 10.
The second question is in regards to support stock. This is also denoted on Page 8 and Page 9,
with the numbers of heifers, calves and babies that will be raised on-sire.
As stated on Page 11,monitoring wells are not recommended because it is a simple procedure to
hand-drill to the water tehle, approximately nine feet below grade. Instead of installing
stationary wells, a water table sample could be retrieved from any location on the facility.
Regarding the soil export grading that took place, it has been my experience that since there is
only a slight change in soil texture between the root zone of the original surface soil and the root
zone of the current soil surface, there should be little difference in crop uptake and utilization. I
have personally been involved in several land reclamation projects where manure sr lids,
manured liquid and other soil amendments were used to build-up the nutrient capacity of a
subsoil. It is my opinion that reclamation prucedufes are not required for the Subsoils that are
now surface soils.
Page I of 2
P.O.Box 3794 1 7arl0Ck,Celif9rnia 93381 . (209)668-1403 .
