FACILITY INSPECTION REPORT -6-
MUSCO FAMILY OLIVE COMPANY
SAN JOAOU1N COUNTY
noticed a flexible hose extending from the eucalyptus grove to the 55 East Field sump. Hall
reported that wastewater from the sump is pumped to the eucalyptus grove.
SAMPLING LABORATORY RESULTS:
Tables 3 identifies the locations of water samples collected during my inspection and Table 4
summarizes the samples' laboratory analytical results.
Table 3
Sample Location Summary
Sample ID' Sample Location
.1 Second Sump inspected in Evaporation South Field
:? Drainage near culvert under 1-580 (Musco staff also routinely samples here)
3 Altered streambed upstream from concrete-lined bypass channel
4 Spring upstream from Reservoir
:i Blanket drain discharge
:sample ID prefix is "HA060323"
Table 4
Sample Laboratory Results {all units are mg1Q
Sample Alk3
ID FDSZ CI Na TOC2 N total NO3-N NH3-N Fe Mn as CO3) PO4
1 1,400 290 470 59 27 14 1.1 6.3 0.16 62 18
2 4,300 420 1,600 98 60 7.9 11 13 0.39 360 120
3 2,000 450 760 71 29 1.4 1.6 0.81 0.08 140 19
4 1,400 220 380 11 12 8.6 ND ND 0.08 ND 2.6
5 2,500 480 690 27 3.6 1.2 ND ND 1.3 ND 0.58
Fixed dissolved solids
2 Total organic carbon
3 Alkalinity
4 Not detected
Sample 4., the spring above the Reservoir, reflects the quality of surfacing groundwater
presumably uninfluenced by Musco's discharge. Sample 3, water in the altered streambed
below the first sump inspected ,in 55 West, shows increases in chloride, sodium, TOC,
nitrogen, iron, manganese, alkalinity, and phosphorus. Sample 2, water in the drainage near
the culvert under 1-580, shows further increases in waste constituents, especially sodium,
TOC, ammonia, iron, manganese, and alkalinity. These results, plus the physical evidence of
erosion channels originating at runoff collection sumps to drainages, document the discharge
of wastewater to the drainage in violation of the WDRs Order No. R5-2002-0148, Discharge
Prohibition A.1.
