3
INFORMATION RECEIVED FROM BIO PURE COMPANY
The treatment system proposed is a Bio-Pure extended aeration,
complete mix, batch-reaction system manufactured by AquaClear
Technologies, Inc. The Bio-Pure process has been certified by the
National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) using the C-9 Criteria. A
copy of the letter of certification is available upon request.
The National Sanitation Foundation Basic Criteria C-9 test results
were obtained using a production model of the Bio-Pure 30E
secondary system. All subsequent production models, of all sizes,
use the same process design. The similarity of the NSf test
results and the actual results of the typical Bio-Pure plant
effluent are nearly identical . Once the plant has stabilized
(about 10 days after start up) , its performance is highly
predictable. At secondary-level treatment, the pH ranges from 6. 8
to 7. 5 ; biochemical . oxygen demand (BOD) ranges from 6. 0 to 11. 5;
dissolved oxygen (DO) ranges from 3 . 5 to 8 . 0; suspended solids (SS)
range from 5 . 5 to 12, sludge volume in the SSV-60 tests will range
from 80 to 380 mg/L, and fecal coliform counts will be less than 23
organisms per 100 ml.
The system for this project will include pressure filtration and
disinfection by both chlorine and ozone. With pressure filters and
an ozonator, the Bio-Pure system will exceed State of California
Title 22 requirements for reclaimed water for use as recreation or
unrestricted irrigation water. California Title 22 is the most
stringent water reclamation standard in the nation, and perhaps the
world. It s 500 times more stringent than the equivalent standards
set by the World Health Organization (WHO) . After system
stabilization, the effluent will contain less than 10 mg/L
biochemical oxygen demand, less than 10 mg/L suspended solids, and
less than 2 . 2 coliform organisms per 100 m/L. The design goal of
the system for this project shall be less than 5 mg/L each of
biochemical oxygen demand and suspended solids and zero coliform
organisms. With the ozonator, an output of zero biochemical oxygen
demand, zero suspended solids, and zero coliform organisms is
attainable. A copy of the AquaClear/Bio-Pure warranty is available
upon request.
The computer-controlled system operation is smooth and error-free.
Once the field programmable unit is programmed, the operation will
continue automatically and reliably until reprogrammed.
The Bio-Pure system maintenance and testing (to meet typical NPDES
permit requirements) will take less than 1. 5 hours daily and must
be performed by a registered sanitarian or by a firm licensed to
perform such testing and maintenance. The selected operators will
receive a minimum of 8 hours of Bio-Pure system theory, training,
and instruction by AquaClear Technologies.
The Bio-Pure batch treatment process design for this project is
