I. INTRODUCTION
This report issues my findings regarding the Nitrate Loading and Soil Suitability Studies completed
for the subject project under examination, located near Acampo, California. The purpose of these
Studies is to provide the San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department (EHD) with their
required and requested information pertaining to the current status of the soil and groundwater
regarding nitrate loading potential from a future on-site sanitary wastewater disposal system.
These studies comply with San Joaquin County Development Title, Section 9-1105.2(d). Mr. Jim
Crandell is the Facilities Director for Woodbridge Winery and has provided the preliminary
information to complete these Studies. He has also provided EHD with design parameters that will
be submitted in conjunction with this report.
Within the text of this Report, Bolded Section (§)numbers are referenced at the beginning of an
applicable Paragraph(s), or Appendices that correspond with the EHD Requirements Checklist.
Section Numbers referenced as SSS§, are sections applicable for the Soil Suitability Study
Requirements Checklist. Section Numbers referenced as NLS§, are sections applicable for the
Nitrate Loading Study Requirements Checklist. Other portions of text may also apply to other
sections of the Checklists.
✓NLS§ 2.3, SSS§3.1. The subject property is located one mile east of the intersection of Highway 99
and Woodbridge Road at 5950 Woodbridge Road. The nearest cross street is Kennefick Road. No
municipal sewer facilities will expand to this area and it is unknown if services will ever be installed.
Mr. Crandell is in the process of consolidating all of the individual septic systems on the winery
property into one on-site centralized sanitary wastewater management system for treatment and
disposal. Existing septic systems are illustrated on the"Domestic Waste Site Plan"produced by
Kennedy-Jenks Consultants and Advanced Design Group, Inc., found in Appendix A. This
consolidation process is required by EHD as part of Use Permit UP-9716.
At present, there are three operational wells on the subject property. Production Well#1 is the
primary potable water supply for the winery facility. Production Well#3 is for back-up process
water and Well #4 is for primary process water. These wells are also illustrated on the Domestic
Waste Site Plan. Monitoring Wells have been installed on, and around the property to monitor
process wastewater impact potential to the underlying groundwater in compliance with the
requirements of the Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board.
f` SSS§ 1.1, 1.2. As illustrated on the attached Site Plans, the property is entirely composed of
activities associated with the winery operations. This includes offices/buildings, tank farms,
vineyards, process wastewater treatment/disposal and the proposed sanitary wastewater treatment
and disposal area. Total Parcel area is 101.68 acres. Current zoning is AG-40,with General Plan
as Agriculture -AG.
The following is a summarization of the information collected to complete these Studies and
preliminarily fulfill the requirements of EHD. Sanitary wastewater system operational parameters are
also discussed in the Conclusions Section of this report to supply additional information to EHD:
1
Chesney Consulting
