The East Miner investigation consisted of a soil investigation in the
locations of a former underground gasoline tank and a suspected underground diesel
tank, The gasoline tank was removed in 1985. The diesel fuel tank was believed to
exist based on a 1983 plant map: this map is the only indication that a below-ground
diesel tank ever existed on the East Miner location.
The investigation was conducted in accordance with the following two guidance docu-
ments: Tri-Regional Board Staff Recommendations for Preliminary Evaluation and
Investigation of Underground Tank Sites (North Coast Regional Water
Quality Control
Board, 1990), and the Leaking Underground Fuel Tank (LUF"T) Field Manual (State
Water Resources Control Board, 1988). The field activities followed the Workplan for
the Underground Tank Investigation at the East Miner Avenue site (CH2M HILL,
March 1991).
r ,
The objectives of this program were to:
Attempt to locate a buried diesel fuel tank identified on a 1983 plant
map.
Identify the lateral and vertical extent of soil co.,tamination, if any, in the
vicinity of the diesel tank and in the vicinity of the former 500-gallon
gasoline tank.
Evaluate the potential for groundwater contamination beneath each tank
site.
v Recommend a plan for remedial action, if needed.
r _ SF03tho5'Jtk'1tK1.5t l-3
