Silgan has been
leasing the subject facility for it's can manufacturing operation. This scope of work
addresses the evaluation of subsurface soil conditions at selected locations of the former
canning operations. Also please find enclosed the drilling permit and corresponding
remittance ($89) and the site mitigation forms and associated fees ($234).
Project Understanding
It is our understanding that Silgan has given Del Monte notice that it plans to terminate the
lease at Plant 33. In accordance with the lease agreement between Del Monte and Silgan,
environmental tests will be conducted to determine if Silgan's operations have affected the
subsurface. Silgan obtained a proposal to conduct a soil investigation of the subject property
from Park Environmental (Park) dated August 22, 1995. However, Del Monte has
determined that the investigation will be performed by a Del Monte contractor and has
requested that C112M HILL submit a proposal based on the scope of work outlined by Park.
On January 25, 1996, a Del Monte representative and Thom Little/CH2M HILL conducted a
site walk of the subject property to mark the sampling locations proposed by Park. During
the site walk, it was agreed that our proposal would include the sample locations identified
by Park and one additional soil sample location at the Draw Press location.
San Jose Office 2107 N.First Sheet,Suite 210 408.436.4909
c:\mywork\delmome\plmL33\silgu.doc San Jose,California 95131-2026 Fax 408.436.4829
