0
21 December 1998
AGE-NC Project No. 98-0533
permitting, a health and safety plan will be prepared in accordance with Occupational Safety and
Health Guidance Manual for Hazardous Waste Site Activities (National Institute for Occupational
Safety and Health Administration, U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency,
1985). Prior to mobilization, each soil probe location will be clearly marked and an utility clearance
obtained through Underground Service Alert.
3.2. SOIL SAMPLE COLLECTION AND ANALYSIS
Initially, AGE proposes to advance five vertical or angled(where feasible) soil probe borings in the
vicinity of the USTs system to evaluate if petroleum hydrocarbons have impacted soil and/or ground
water. Proposed probe boring locations are illustrated in Figure 2. Each probe boring will be
advanced to a total vertical depth of 20 feet below surface grade (bsg). Probe borings may be
advanced to greater depths or additional borings may advanced based upon field observations. Probe
borings will be advanced using a Geoprobe soil probing unit. Soil samples will be collected at depths
of 10, 15 and 20 feet bsg. If ground water is encountered, grab samples will be collected from
selected probe borings.
Field procedures for advancement of probe borings and collection of soil samples are presented in
Section 4.2. It is anticipated that two soil samples from each probe boring will be submitted for
laboratory analysis.
Selected soil samples will be analyzed by a State of California Department of Health Services(DHS)
-certified laboratory for the following constituents:
• Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as aviation fuel (TPH-av) by EPA Method 8015
Modified; and
• Benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene and xylenes (BTEX) by EPA Method 8020.
Laboratory reports for soil analyses, testing methods, laboratory quality assurance/quality control
(QA/QC) reports, and sample chain of custody documentation will be presented in a report with
findings and recommendations.
3.3. REPORT PREPARATION
Upon completion of field work and receipt of final laboratory analysis, a report will be prepared
presenting the findings of the investigation. The report will include a description of the work
performed and results of the sampling and analysis. Conclusions and applicable recommendations
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.
