Secondary Containment Assessment Page A:
Overhead view:
r
Cross sectional (lateral) view:
N
Volume calculations:
Tank volume (single tank): 3000 gallons.
Containment volume: 9'-3" X 24' — 8" X 32" = 609.3 cu. ft. = 4557 gals.
Volume/inch = 4557/32 = 142.7 gal/in
Excess volume = 4557-3000 = 1557 gals. equivalent to 1557/142.7 = 10.9"
24 hr., 25 yr. storm = 2.4 to 2.6" for most of San Joaquin Valley.
Therefore, secondary containment volume is adequate.
Design of containment area: Secondary containment is provided by a reinforced, lined,
concrete enclosure surrounding the tank. The lining material was selected to resist the
action of sodium hydroxide in the event of a spill. The containment area was recently
repaired and re -lined, and does not have cracks or gaps to allow the escape of spilled
material.
Site Security: The entire site is fenced. The gate is locked when company personnel are
not present.
Secondary Containment findings: The secondary containment system is of sufficient
capacity and condition for the containment of releases from the 3000 gal caustic tank and
ancillary equipment.
