Mr. Kenneth Earnest
May 20, 1994
Page 2
benzene fraction of 3.4 percent, resulting in an estimated 174 pounds of benzene extracted
during the period. Therefore, as of November he cumulative totals for extraction
amounts since start-up of the system are 5,133 pounds of hy ounds of
benzene.
November 29 to December 30, 1993
The system ran for approximately 6 days out of the 31-day reporting period. Intermittent
shutdowns caused by two different problems limited the operation of the THERMTECH
oxidation unit. One of the problems was a control power fuse blowing out because of a wiring
short. This problem was identified on January 3, 1994 and corrected on January 5, 1994 with
the help of an electrician. The second problem was apparently due to a faulty pressure switch
diaphragm which was discovered and repaired on January 3, 1994. Over the 31-day operating
period, the system extracted an estimated 834 pounds of hydrocarbons (based on field readings).
The laboratory results for an influent air sample collected on December 14, 1993, indicated a
benzene fraction of 2.5 percent. The estimated benzene extracted during this period is
21 oun As of December 30, 1993, the cumulative totals for extraction amounts since start-
up of the system are a>rbous ounds_of benzene.
December 30, 1994 to January 25, 1994
The system operated for about 3 days during the 26-day observation period. In addition to the
problems stated in the previous operation period summary, another problem involving a control
circuit with four different switches caused the unit to inexplicably shut down. Over the 26-day
operating period, the system extracted an estimated 525 pounds of hydrocarbons (based on field
readings). The laboratory results for an influent air sample collected on January 25, 1994,
indicated a benzene fraction of 1.5 percent. The estimated benzene extracted during this period
is 8 pounds. Therefore, as of January 2j,199-4, the cumulative totals for extraction amounts
since start-up of the system are 6 492 uotnds of hvdroabQtt and 2Q;pQuts of benzenes,
On January 25, 1994, AMV switched operation of the THERMTECH oxidation unit from the
thermal mode to the catalytic mode.
January 25 to February 28, 1994
The system ran for approximately 15 days during the 34-day observation period. The system
shut down twice during the period apparently due to electrical service interruptions. Over the
reporting period, the vapor system extracted an estimated 965 pounds of hydrocarbons (based
on field readings).
