MORRIS ENGINEERING & ASSOCIATES, INC.
CONSULTING ENGINEERS
Tank Assessment Checklist: Tank T2
Tank Name: Heavy Metal Clarifier
Approximate Date of Construction: 1983
Design Standards: IIndustry Practice atTime ofConstruction
Approximate Dimensions: 1134"Long x 48"Wide x 120"High
Tank Configuration: Vertical
Approximate Gross Capacity: 2600 gallons
Material of Construction: Painted or Epoxy Coated Steel
Approximate Tank Wall Thickness; 3/16"(estimated measurement)
Tank System Piping: See Pipe Summary
Internal/External Pumps: No permanent pipes in place.
Leak Detection Equipment: Visual Observation
Corrosion Protection Equipment: Steel is covered with a corrosion resistant paint,no additional
corrosion protection equipment,
Spill Prevention Equipment: Tank is within a secondary containment area of sufficient capacity
to contain any tank spills,no additional spill prevention equipment.
Secondary Containment: Epoxy Coated Concrete Berm,See Containment Summaryfor
Evaluation
Hazardous Characteristics of Waste: Currently tank does notstore or treat hazardous wastes, however
in the future itmay be filled with a Zinc-Phosphate solution.
Description of Structural Damage: All sides of equipment was observable, and the tank was drained at
the time of our inspection. No structural damage to the tank was
noticed
Results of Leak Test: No leak test was performed,at this time. The tank is not currently
operational, and before it is place in operation we recommend that
a leak test be performed to ensure the water tightness of the
removable panels.
Foundation: Tank was installed on a concrete slab-on-grade and appears to be
adequately supported as there were no signs of cracking or
settlement around the tank.
Seismic Anchors: Seismic anchors were not installed. We recommend that anchors
be installed in the near future.
Estimated Remaining Service Life: 5+years
Comments: Tank appears to be in adequate condition, and we did not notice
any signs ofstructural damage during our visual observation.
However,we recommend that prior to the tank being placed in
service, the tank be sandblasted and an ultrasonic or similar
testing be completed Zy a licensed testing agency to verify the
thickness of the existing material to determine if any degradation
has occurred due to corrosion. A leak test should also be performed
at this time prior to the tank being placed in service. The tank has
not been in use since 1994.
1300 INDUSTRIAL ROAD, SUITE 14,SAN CARLOS,CA 94070, (650)595-2973 FAX(650)595-2980
Email: lee@morriseng.com
