5 July 1995'
AGE-NC-95-0124
' 3 8 WELL SURVEY
In accordance with the Addendum to Appendix A Guidelines for Central Valley Regional Board
Requests for Site Closure, a well survey for the site was performed The well survey is performed to
determine the locations of all production wells for municipal,'domestic, agriculture, industry within
2,000 feet of the site
According the City of Lodi Municipal Utilities, three wells are located within 2,000 feet of the site
City of Lodi Municipal Well#4 is located near the water tower approximately 2,000 feet north of the
site,City of Lodi Municipal Well#3 is located at the 200 block of East School Street, approximately
1,000 feet west of the site, City of Lodi Municipal Well Al is located approximately 1,500 feet
southeast of the site at the 200 block of East Lodi Avenue (in the alley immediately south of Lodi
Avenue However, Wells #3 and #4 are inactive at the present time and Well #1 is officially
abandoned
4.0. CONCLUSIONS & RECOMMENDATIONS
A`soil sample collected from the floor of the excavation at a depth of 28 feet indicates that all
' hydrocarbon impacted soil was removed from directly beneath the former UST However, low
concentrations of petroleum hydrocarbons were detected in a soil sample collected from the west
sndewall (WW-1)
' Further excavation to the west to remove the remaining impacted soil was not possible without
demolition or structural damage to the existing structure Therefore, a soil boring (B4) was drilled
20 feet immediately west of the former UST, inside the building No hydrocarbons were detected in
soil samples from B4
Figure 3 is a cross-section of the area from bonng B4 to the east wall of the excavation Estimating
the volume of impacted soil from Figure 3, approximately 88 cubic yards of impacted soil are present
beneath the building at the site
Using the TPH-g concentration detected in WW-1 (77 ppm) as the hypothetical average of the
remaining impacted soil, approximately 2 6 gallons of hydrocarbons (gasoline) remain in the impacted
I soil at the site (calculations are included in Appendix D) In-situ remediation of small volumes of soil
containing low concentrations of hydrocarbons is neither technically feasible or cost effective
Ground water at the site is estimated to be approximately 30 feet below the floor of the excavation
Although historically ground water depth was reported to be 35 feet, it is very unlikely that
groundwater will return to pre-drought (1985) conditions Vertical migration of the remairung
4'
