1
30 September 1996
AGE-NC-95-0112
Borings installed during the next quarter will be placed near MW-1 and the former UST location
' An internal combustion engine-driven SVE system is being used to remove and destroy the
hydrocarbon vapor recovered from the soil, a compressor-driven IAS system is being used to strip
dissolved hydrocarbons from ground water Due to the Iow concentrations of extracted
hydrocarbons, the extraction unit should soon be replaced with a blower/carbon canister system This
will reduce the costs of supplemental fuel and the level of disturbance to neighboring businesses due
' to the noise generated by the current SVE unit
Hydrocarbon concentrations in ground water continued to decrease in MW-1 during the July 1996
monitoring Benzene and toluene were not detected in the sample collected from MW-1 Petroleum
hydrocarbons were not detected in any of the other monitoring wells sampled in July 1996 MTBE
' was not detected in either soil or ground water samples collected at the site The sparging/extraction
system appears to have promoted a decrease in dissolved hydrocarbon concentrations in ground
water at the site without spreading the contaminant plume The next quarterly ground water
' monitoring will be scheduled for October 1996 Samples for the October 1996 monitoring will again
be analyzed for MTBE in addition to TPH-g and BTE&X
5.0 LIMITATIONS
1 Our professional services were performed using that degree of care and skill ordinarily exercised by
environmental consultants practicing in this or similar localities The findings were based upon
' analytical results provided by an independent laboratory Evaluations of the geologic/hydrogeologic
conditions at the site for the purpose of this investigation are made from a limited number of
available data points(e g monitoring wells, soil probings)and subsurface conditions may vary away
' from these data points No other warranty, expressed or implied, is made as to the professional
recommendations contained in this report
