Quantity and Quality of Domestic Wastewater
Employee numbers are presented in Exhibit 2A of the Site Approval application.
According to that chart, the following employees will be present on the Site from May to
October:
• 7 warehouse supervisors from 4:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. (10 hrs.)
• 5 packing supervisors from 4:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. (9 hrs.)
• 174 sweet corn line crew members from 5:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. (8 hrs.)
• 15 administration (early shift) from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. (8 hrs.)
• 3 administration (normal shift) from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (8 hrs.)
• 2 administration (late shift) from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (8 hrs.)
• 8 sanitation workers from 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. (8 hrs.)
• 5 cooling workers from 5:00 p.m. to 3:30 a.m. (10.5 hrs.)
Jim Thoming, Chief Financial Officer at FC Tracy Holdings, indicated that the facility will
operate a maximum of 6 days per week. He added that the administration workers will
be present year-round, as will u to six maintenance workers. No customers are
anticipated.
The administration building will seat 20 employees (included in the figure above) and
will have a break room but not a kitchen; food preparation will not be addressed in the
nitrate loading calculation. Two showers will be present in the administration building as
well. It is anticipated that only five of the 20 administration building employees will take
showers; the other employees will not use the showers.
The estimated sewage flow rates for various uses are available from a number of
references. The uses presented below were guided by the San Joaquin County On-Site
Wastewater Treatment Systems Standards (2017), Crites and Tchobanoglous-(1998),
and US EPA (1980). Crites and Tchobanoglous indicate that 13 gallons)per day for
each employee is typical for an office or industrial worker; Ift rate was used for the
packing facility's employees. A value of 14 gallons per person per day is typical for a
flow-reducing shower (Crites and Tchobanoglous); this value was used for the
administration building showers.
The estimated flow values discussed here should not be used for the design and sizing
of the septic system. The design and sizing of the septic system should utilize the San
Joaquin County Environmental Health Department On-Site Wastewater Treatment
LOGE 1846 Page 9
