Soil Suitability/ Nitrate Loading Study Addendum Letter 1rerracon
Nostra Vita Winery Lodi, California
May 20, 2019 Terracon Project No. NA197023
day for a total of 3,050 gallons for the existing building. The proposed wine production building
will add 45 gallons per day of effluent to the overall facility wastewater flow for a max daily flow
total of 3,095 gallons per day. The existing septic system currently has a tank holding capacity of
1,600 gallons. The proposed development will add an additional 2,500 gallon septic tank for a
tank holding capacity of 4,100 gallons. Although no concerns were reported for the existing septic
system, the client should be aware wastewater flows may exceed the existing tank holding
capacity during special events.
Nitrate loading results were based on average daily flow rates. Nitrate levels for the existing
facility plus special events is 4.3 mg/L-N. The proposed development is anticipated to add 1.2
mg/L N which increases nitrate as N levels to 5.5 mg/L-N below the MCL of 10 mg/L-N.
Based on a review of the utility plan, the proposed leach field will be located within 150 feet of the
public supply well. Terracon recommends the septic system construction should follow the San
Joaquin County OWTS where applicable including setback requirements for public water wells of
150 feet.
Limitations
Our study takes into account the subject property only with the sewage load applied over the
property site area. The study does not take into account surrounding properties and/or lands.
The method utilized for the nitrate loading analysis is based on a simple mass balance formula,
discussed in a published article by Hantzsche and Finnemore (1992), which provides a
convenient and simplified method to estimate long-term groundwater nitrate impacts on an area-
wide basis. A more detailed analysis was not requested nor intended.
Our professional services were performed, our findings obtained, and our conclusions proposed
in accordance with generally accepted engineering principles and practices. This warranty is in
lieu of all other warranties either expressed or implied. Test findings and statements of
professional opinion do not constitute a guarantee or warranty, expressed or implied.
Responsive ■ Resourceful r Reliable 8
