DULFNDD S E P tz 12008 SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY S 9E p, O WORK NOTICE ENVRQNIt TALHEALLTHDEPT. �P T' Former Manufactured Gas Plant a - m ® r 712 South Sacramento Street 4CIFOAN�P Lodi, California C September 2008 DEPARTMENT OF TOXIC SUBSTANCES CONTROL Field Work being conducted beginning the week of September 22"d The Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) is distributing this notice to inform the community about upcoming field work at Pacific Gas and Electric Company's (PG&E) vacant site located at 712 South Sa,.ramento Street, Lodi, California (see map and photograph next page). From 1913 to 1928, a manufactured gas plant operated on the site. PG&E contractors, under the oversight of DTSC, plan to begin collecting samples of soil and groundwater throughout the site. These samples are being collected as part of a phased site investigation that will determine if residues from past manufacturing gas operations are present in soil and groundwater at the site. Work will take place from September 24`h through November 14th between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. and includes the following: • The site will be cleared of vegetation and debris and a geophysical survey will be conducted. The survey will help us locate underground structures such as piping. • About 18 holes will be drilled at various locations throughout the site and in the street directly in front of the site. Soil, soil gas and groundwater samples will be collected using hand sampling equipment and a truck-mounted drill rig. • Boreholes will be filled with a concrete mixture and patched with asphalt or concrete after work is completed. • All work will be conducted in accordance with a site Health and Safety Plan. Workers may wear safety gear while working on-site and operating heavy equipment The majority of work will take place within the fenced areas of the site. Several borings will be drilled in the sidewalk and the street immediately in front of the site. During the sidewalk and street drilling activities pedestrian traffic and on-street parking will be detoured to the opposite side of the street and traffic control measures will be used. This work will be done according to the Remedial Investigation Work Plan for the site. This data will help determine the extent of cleanup that will be necessary.
