APPENDIX E
SITE RECONNAISSANCE INTERVIEW AND OBSERVATIONS REPORT
Bechtel Environmental, Inc.
P.O. Box 193965
San Francisco, CA 94119-3965
OBSERVATIONS MADE BY: Subbu Mahadevan and Fred Heyler DATE: December 2, 1992
FACILITY REPRESENTATIVE(S) and TITLE(S): Fred Roes, Owner
SITE: Busy Bee Laundry and Cleaning
EPA ID: CAD 982053944
A site reconnaissance was conducted at the Busy Bee Laundry and Cleaning site on December 2,
1992. The weather was cloudy with a light drizzle and the temperature was approximately 55°F.
The Bechtel site visit team, Subbu Mahadevan and Fred Heyler, conducted the site reconnaissance
with Fred Roes, owner of Busy Bee Laundry and Cleaning, at 2 p.m. to gather information on the
site location and size, history, processes used and any hazardous waste generated, treated, stored or
disposed off on site. The reconnaissance included a site tour during which photographs were
taken. Paul Walker, attorney for Busy Bee Laundry and Cleaning, joined the site reconnaissance
team towards the latter half of the visit.
The following information was obtained during the site reconnaissance:
The Busy Bee site is located at the intersection of Main Street and Elm Street. The site is bordered
on the west by Main Street and a large gravel covered area with railroad tracks that run parallel to
Main Street; on the north by Elm Street and the Diamond Home Investment Center, on the east by
Speedy Recovery, a furniture and antique shop; on the northeast by a completely fenced
playground; and on the south by the Bumble Bee Inn. The main entrance to the facility is from
Main Street.
The site has been the location of a laundry and dry cleaning facility since 1985. The site is located
in a portion of a building complex owned by M & P Investments. The dry cleaning operation at
the site was founded by Alvin Allmendinger in June 1985. Fred Roes, the current owner, took
over the business in October 1987. Currently, there are six employees on site. There were several
different businesses occupying the site prior to 1985. Mr. Roes has heard from customers that the
building was erected around the turn of the century, and that the businesses on site included a
grocery store,a fish market, and an antique shop.
The Busy Bee site in downtown Lodi consists of one building that is approximately 2,800 square
feet. The building is divided into three rooms. The entrance to the building faces Main Street in
the northwest corner of the site. The room located in the northwest portion of the building contains
a front counter where clothes are dropped off and picked up. This room also contains several
clothes racks and an office area. The room in the northeast portion of the building contains three
SI Busy Bee Laundry and Cleaning-0(F)• 1193 E-1 Printed on 50%recycled Paper.
