Administer fluids and <br /> skin; lack of dizziness, allow worker to rest until fully <br /> coordination; nausea. recovered. Increase rest <br /> fainting. periods and closely observe <br /> worker for additional signs of <br /> heat exhaustion. If symptoms <br /> of heat exhaustion occur, treat <br /> as above and release worker <br /> from day's activities after full <br /> recovery. <br /> Condition Signs Symptoms Response <br /> Heat Stroke Red, hot, dry Lack of or Immediately contact <br /> skin; reduced emergency medical services by <br /> disorientation; perspiration; calling 911. Remove the <br /> unconsciousness nausea; worker to a cool shady area <br /> dizziness and and observe for signs of shock. <br /> confusion; Attempt to comfort worker by <br /> strong, rapid administering small amounts <br /> pulse. of cool water (if conscious), <br /> loosening clothing, and <br /> placing cool compresses at <br /> locations where major arteries <br /> occur close to the body's <br /> surface (neck, underarms, and <br /> groin areas). Carefully follow <br /> instructions provided by <br /> emergency medical services <br /> until help arrives. <br /> Heavy Equipment <br /> The only heavy equipment to be used during the planned work activities is the drill <br /> rig. The subcontractor, ECA, Inc., will provide an experienced operator to operate the <br /> rig in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions and specifications. The <br /> operator is responsible for inspecting the rig on a daily basis to ensure that it is <br /> operating properly and safely. <br /> Potential physical hazards will arise from operation of the drill rig to perform the tasks <br /> described in Section 1.2. General precautions that should be observed for safe <br /> operation include: <br /> • Use of PPE, including steel-toed boots, safety glasses, and hard hats. <br /> • Workers in the vicinity of the equipment should be aware of the equipment's <br /> location and that it is being operated. Verify that the operator is aware of your <br /> presence by establishing eye contact or communication by hand signals. <br /> • Traffic vests will be worn in areas of vehicular traffic, or near other mobile <br /> heavy equipment. <br /> • Workers should inform operator if they will be walking on the side of, or behind <br /> E2C Remediation Appendix A-5 <br />
