State of California -HE RESOURCES AGENCY OF CALIFORNIA
Memorandum
To Harry S. Islas Date March 30, 1981
San Joaquin County Planning Department-, -- ,c
1819
epartment-, -r.1819 E. Hazelton Avenue subject: Notice of Preparation for
Stockton, CA 95205 EIR, Stockton Sand and
Gravel Quarry Excavation
(EP-81-9/EIR 81-5),
San Joaquin County
From Department of Conservation—Office of the Director;
The proposed project is the excavation and removal of 652,000 cubic yards of
dredge tailings from a site near Linden.
Because the volume of excavation exceeds 1,000 cubic yards per acre, a mine
reclamation plan is required under the Surface Mining arid Reclamation Act
of 1975. We recommend that a copy of the reclamation plan be sent to the
State Geologist for review. Attached CDMG Special Publication 51, State
Policy for Surface Mining and Reclamation Practice, California State
Mining and Geology Board, is recommended as a guideline in the preparation
of the reclamation plan.
In preparing the EIR we recommend that CDMG Note 46, attached, be used as
a guide to identify potential environmental impacts related to geology,
seismology, and mineral resource conservation.
Contributing to the preparation of this review was Elgar Stephens, EG 581,
of the Department's Division of Mines and Geology. For questions regarding
these comments, contact Perry Y. Amimoto, Advisory Services Officer, at
(916) 322-3119.
Patrick G. Nevis
Environmental Program Coordinator
cc: E. Stephens
P. Amimoto
D. Lockwood
Attachments
AA-19
