UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE
SOIL CONSERVATION SERVICE 1222 Monaco Court, #23 - Stockton, CA 95207
April 91 1981
Harry Islas:
San Joaquin County Planning Department
1810 East Hazelton Avenue
Stockton, CA. 95205
Reference: EP-81-9/EIR-81-5
Dear Mr. Islas:
Rolling hills used as rangeland characterize the site for which the
permit is desired. The predominant soil series is Reddingg which
covers approximately 8C% of the site.
The two phases of the Redding soil series which occupy this site
have cobbly/gravelly surface textures, low plant-available water-
holding capacity, and shallow root zone limitations. These factors
make this soil unsuitable for agricultural practices other than
grazing. We therefore concur with this proposal.
From this agencyps standpoints the mitigation measures of settling
ponds and rehabilitation should be strongly assured. Rehabilitation
following project completion should be made to follow existing con-
tours and grades as much as possible, followed by reseeding to a
fast-establishing annual grass species mixture. This agancy can
provide recommendations in that regard to the contractor if
requested by the contractor.
Very truly .y{ours,
Kirby If.
