•rte r''
and no hydrocarbons were detected in any of the samples using
this method.
On 9 and 10 January 1986, GTI personnel supervised the drilling
of four soil borings (Figure 6) located "along the path of the
fuel lines" (SBI-SB3 ) and near the waste oil tank excavation
(SB4 ) to sample the soil for the presence of hydrocarbons (GTI
1986a) . Two soil samples were collected at 5 feet and 10 feet
4 from each of the four 10-foot--deep borings by driving a split-
spoon sampler ahead of the augers. (Copies of the boring logs
are included in Appendix D) . These soil samples were screened at
the surface using an HNU photoionization detector calibrated for
. benzene. No hydrocarbons were detected in any of the .soil sam-
plea using this method.
In December. 1986, a soil boring was drilled by GTI in the area of
the former- tank pit for the purposes of soil sampling and instal-
lation of. a monitoringw ell (MW3) . Soil samples were collected
from this boring .using a split-spoon sampler lined with brass
tubes. . .Samples were handled, stored, and transmitted to Wesco
yLaboratories according to GTI .sta:ndard operating procedures,.-as .
described in the GTI report. Three soil samples from this boring
:.. were analyzed for, TPH, benzene,. toluene, and xylenes. Results of
these analyses are inc.luded :in Table 8.
F
In June 1987 two additional soil borings were drilled to collect
soil samples and install two monitoring. well,-s:(MW4, MW5, Figure
One soil sample was collected .from the 45-Moot level of each
. .:
boring.., The results__of -the-chemicalanalysis_ of these samples
are included .with .the other. GTI soil sample results in Table S.
' Soil samples collected, from.M143.contained very low levels of
s e
benzene, toluene; xylenes, and total ioetroleum hydrocarbons
(Table 8); soil samples from MW4 and MW5 contained nondetectable
levels .of.:these. €uel constituents.
e35/71050/2-90/tx 20
ft.
