CENTRAL VALLEY r-GIONAL WATER QUALITY -'ONTROL BOARD
INSPECTION REPORT
8 July 1988
DISCHARGER: City of Tracy Wastewater Treatment Plant
LOCATION & COUNTY: Tracy, San Joaquin County
CONTACT(S) : Darrell Scott, Lab Supervisor: Robert Sagaser,
Environmental. Control Inspector; John Baker,
Utilities Director
INSPECTION DATE: 28 April 1988
INSPECTED BY: Robert Evans
ACCOMPANIED BY: Same as above
OBSERVATIONS AND COMMENTS
This was a level "A" inspection.
The City operates a secondary treatment plant featuring an activated
sludge process in-series with two biofilters. The domestic sewage
has grit removed in an aerated grit chamber after it passes through
a bar screen or comminutor. Next, the flow goes to a primary
clarifier. The industrial flows from Heinz and Laura Scudders go
through a separate bar screen, grit removal chamber, and separate
primary sedimentation tanks operated in parallel. Flow from the
Leprino Cheese plant goes through a separate primary sedimentation
unit.
Industrial flows from the primary sedimentation units and the
domestic flows from the primary clarifier are combined and then
lifted to the top of two aerobic biofilter towers. The effluent
from the biofilters goes to four activated sludge aeration basins
and then to two batteries of two secondary sedimentation tanks
operated in parallel . Effluent, from the secondary clarifier is
chlorinated, passes through a contact basin and is then
dechlorinated and discharged to Old River.
The treatment capacity of the plant has been designed for a dry
weather flow of 9. 0 mgd. Darrell Scott stated the plant currently
receives a daily average (dry weather) flow of 6. 5 mgd of combined
domestic and industrial wastewater. During our inspection, the flow
was approximately 3 . 5 mgd for domestic and 0.7 mgd for industrial.
