Four
geoprobe direct push soil borings were advanced; soil and grab groundwater samples were
collected for analysis. The borings were located in the area of the former underground storage
tank, and at locations suspected to be down gradient from the tank. Laboratory analytical results
documented total petroleum hydrocarbons as diesel (TPHd)impacting groundwater at each
boring location.
The report recommends that no further investigation of this site be conducted. However, per the
California Code of Regulations, Title 23, Chapter 16, Article 11, section 2725, all responsible
parties to contaminated underground storage tank sites must conduct an investigation to define
the vertical and lateral extent of the unauthorized release.
You are directed to submit a work plan to continue the investigation at this site,to define the
lateral and vertical extent of the contaminant plume, and to install groundwater monitoring wells.
In addition, a sensitive receptor/well survey must be completed that identifies all municipal,
domestic, agricultural, industrial or other wells located within 2000 feet of the site. The work plan
and receptor survey are due by August 25, 2003. In addition, please provide to SJC/EHD copies
of the chromatograms from the EPA Method 8260 groundwater analyses previously performed.
Donna Heran, REHS, Director
Environmental Health Department
Lori Duncan, Senior REHS Nuel C.
