1.4 INTRODUCTION <br /> Valley Motors operates a wholesale used car dealership at 800 East Main Street in Stockton, <br /> California and is owned by Mrs Barbara Hyduke Investigation of the extent of hydrocarbon <br /> contamination beneath the Valley Motors property has been directed by San Joaquin County Public <br /> Health Services, Environmental Health Division (PHS/EHD) <br /> 2.0 BACKGROUND <br /> 2.1 Site Location and Description <br /> 1 <br /> The site is located several blocks east of downtown Stockton and several blocks north of Mofmon <br /> Slough (Figure 1) It occupies an L-shaped parcel of land at the comer of Main and Grant Streets <br /> The area is zoned commercial and light industrial Small businesses and a vacant lot are located to <br /> the north, across Main Street, and a paint company is located to the west, across Grant Street The <br /> topography in the area is flat <br /> 2.2 Previous Work <br /> After several years of investigation and monitoring, Upgradient Environmental submitted a <br /> Problem Assessment Report and Soil Remediation Plan on behalf of Valley Motors in October <br /> 2003 That report summarizes all previous work that has been performed The reader is referred to <br /> that report for information about the history of the investigation <br /> 3 0 PROCEDURES <br /> The depth to groundwater was measured and waxer samples were collected on January 12, 2006 <br /> The wells were opened and allowed to equalize with atmospheric pressure before the depth to <br /> groundwater was measured Depth measurements were recorded on the Well Monitor Report <br /> (Appendix A) Because the water depth was more than 35 feet, well VM-5 was dry <br /> Well numbers VM-6, VM-7, and VM-8 were hand bailed because they only had about 5 to 6 feet of <br /> water Six gallons were purged from each The other four wells were pumped of 11 to 15 gallons of <br /> water prior to sampling Water samples were collected from all wells except VM-5 Three 40-m1 <br /> vials and 1- pint plastic and 1-liter amber bottles were collected from each, labeled, and placed in a <br /> cooled ice chest The samples were later transported to Excelchem Environmental Laboratory for <br /> analysis The laboratory report is included in Appendix B Mr Infurna of EHD witnessed the <br /> purging, sampling and decontaminating of the purge pump on VM-3 and VM-6 <br /> SJCEHD issued a comment letter to Valley Motors on October 12, 2005 In addition to analyzing <br /> the samples for gasoline and its volatile constituents, EHD directed Valley Motors to analyze for <br /> Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons in the diesel range, all five gasoline oxygenates, 1,2-DCA, EDB, <br /> • and total lead <br />
