• 5.0 CONCLUSIONS
Groundwater continued to flow to the northeast during the quarter This has been the
predominant flow direction throughout the investigation of the site
Contaminant concentrations were stable during the second quarter of 2002 This is to be
expected, although it has occurred rather infrequently at this site Based on historical trends, we
expect concentrations to increase during the third quarter and reach their annual peak
Soil, groundwater, and vapor data collected since 1995 all indicate that the center of the
contaminant plume is located in the northwestern comer of the site, near the former dispenser
island As Figure 6 shows, groundwater concentrations decrease away from this area and are
between 100 and 1000 ppb over the rest of the site Contamination extends off site to the north
and west and may be present as far south as the garage building The four additional monitoring
wells that have previously been proposed and approved should be sufficient to delineate the
margin of the plume in these areas, although VM-7 should be moved eastward along Main Street
to better delineate the downgradient limit of contamination and VM-5 should be moved
southeastward otito the Valley Motors property to better delineate the southern margin of the
plume
Valley Motors has now obtained a Faithful Performance bond, which the City, of Stockton
requires before granting an Encroachment Permit to drill the additional monitoring wells It is
anticipated that the permitting process will be completed in July and that drilling will take place
in August 2002 ,
b
5
