POMBO PROPERTY
Phase I Historical Environmental Audit
1 Page: 4
area and is assumed that it is used for disposal of waste oils and other shop
products.
Both liquid (toilets, sinks, etc.) and solid (garbage and refuse) waste have been
produced by the former occupants of the subject property. These wastes are
normally considered non-hazardous and are handled by a septic system and
garbage collection company.
A wash rack was observed in front of the shop at the 24100 S. Lammers Road
property. It was not apparent that it is still in use. The wash rack may be plumbed
to the septic system. Oil and petroleum products have been dumped or spilled in
this area. Some spillage was apparent in the area of the above ground storage
tanks.
Hazardous waste disposal was not observed on the other two parcels, however,
refrigerants are used at the 24124 S. Lammers Road address. Other wastes such
as abandoned vehicles, auto and tractor parts, and vehicle batteries were observed
on the subject properties.
i 3.8 Underground and Above Ground Fuel Tanks
Two underground tanks were permitted for use at the 24100 S. Lammers Road
property and were removed before 1993. According to Earnest Pombo, since the
tanks were farm exempt they were removed without the normally required soil
sampling. Several above ground tanks are in use at this site and it appears that the
former underground tanks were left on site after the removal. The above ground
tanks are located together centrally in the shop and barn area. Historical
photographs show that one of the above ground tanks was located next to the
tractor shop.
No records were found indicating that underground tanks have ever been present
on the other two parcels. However, the period at which the residence at 24100
and 24124 S. Lammers Road was originally constructed, 1930 and 1938, often
involved the installation of heating oil tanks. These tanks were often abandoned in
place after other fuels were made available to the area. No evidence of a heating
oil tank was observed but the possibility of one having been present on the
properties exists.
3.9 PCB's
Sources of possible PCB's on the subject property were not disclosed during this
audit.
