 AMBRIq f
during late 1991 and early igmf1 Not all the data from this testing is available. However, the
SVE was feasible and effective.available data suggest that si ific
ve,ant
Geo-2 (hydrocarbon mass was present in this source
(May 2000)confirm that petroleum h Subsequent boringsarea and that
September 1995) and SB-5
levels remain. hydrocarbons in this source area were reduced,
but moderate
Since groundwater monitoring was initiated in July 1990, the groundwater table has
approximately 20 feet. Groundwater analytical results from well VEW-2 indicate moderately high levels of petroleum hydrocarbons risen
ate that
SVE appears to be feasible and effective from are Present in the former UST area. Since
© extraction (DPE)as interim re Prior testing, Cambria has proposed dual-phase
mediation of the residual contamination in this source area. DPE
is required to dewater the current saturated zone and expose impacted soils in the 35 to 50 fbg
range to SVE.
WORK TASKS FOR INTERIM REMEDIATION
DPE involves applying a vacuum to a well to dewater the formation to a target elevation and
extract hydrocarbon-bearing vapors from the dewatered zone. A dedicated extraction "stinger"
installed through an airtight well sea] allows DPE at target elevations. Alternatively, a
submersible groundwater pump may be used if it is deemed more efficient in dewatering the
formation.
As discussed in Cambria's October 3, 2003 Site Conceptual ModellSite Investigation Work Plan,
Cambria will target existing well VEW-2 for DPE. Once the well has been dewatered to the
target elevation (approximately 45 fbg), Cambria will incrementally increase the applied vacuum
setting to determine the optimal extraction rate (maximum air flow rate). Once determined,
Cambria will set DPE operation at the optimal extraction rate. Cambria anticipates conducting
DPE from well VEW-2 for at least three continuous days.
Upon completion of DPE from well VEW-2,the equipment will be set to conduct SVE from well
VEW-1. Dewatering of this well is not required. As with DPE, Cambria will incrementally
increase the applied vacuum setting to determine the optimal extraction rate. Once determined,
Cambria will set SVE operation at the optimal extraction rate. Cambria anticipates conducting
SVE from well VEW-1 up to two continuous days. The duration of DPE on well VEW-2 or SVE
on well VEW-1 may alter depending on the data produced.
R54 2
