PHS/EHD has following comments for your consideration.
The report included the results of the September 21 and 22, 1995 soil and groundwater
investigation. A summary of the analytical results obtained were documented in Table 1 Analytical
Results: Soil. Upon review of the table and the Sequoia Analytical laboratory report, it was
discovered that the reporting limit in some samples were significantly elevated due to sample
dilution. The table did not reflect these modifications of reporting limit.
In the future, summary tables must include the reporting limit of each sample. The amended
summary tables should be included with the next quarterly report submitted. Also, PHS/EHD
suggests strongly that depth to water information be contained in the same table as analytical
results for groundwater. It is PHS/EHD's intent to provide directions which will enable efficient and
accurate evaluation of site conditions.
The results of the soil and groundwater investigation indicate that additional groundwater
investigation is necessary west of Geo3, and south of Geot and Geo4. The 1990 information from
the tanks and associated piping removal must be included in subsequent reports, so that the
definition of soil contamination may be evaluated.
Please submit a work plan to complete the soil and groundwater investigation. The work plan
should include a scope of work sufficient to complete any feasibility testing necessary for the
preparation of a corrective action plan, for example a groundwater remediation well for air sparging
feasibility.
If you have any questions, please contact Mary Meays at (209) 468-0337.
Donna Heran, REHS, Director
Environmental Health Division IN
Mary Meays, Senior kHS Diane M.
