(Fugro), on behalf of Shell Oil Company (Shell), is pleased to provide
San Joaquin County Environmental Health Division (SJCEHD) the attached fourth quarter
groundwater monitoring report for the subject site. Petroleum hydrocarbons have not been
indicated in analyses of groundwater samples collected from MW-1 since April 1993.
Concentrations in MW-2 and MW-3 have been declining. Separate-phase hydrocarbons have not
been observed in MW-3 since April 1993.
The off-site investigation proposed in the February 26, 1993 workplan will proceed when
right-of-entry is secured at 6123 Pacific Avenue (Slate Property).
Distribution Of Petroleum Hydrocarbons In Soil
The following information is provided at the request of the SJCEHD during a phone
conversation between Fugro and SJCEHD on October 24, 1994. During this discussion, SJCEHD
requested a summary of the distribution of petroleum hydrocarbons in soil. The attached figures
(6A and 613), are benzene iso-concentration maps for the 15- through 25-foot and 40-through 50-
foot zones beneath the site. These maps were been taken from the Aegis Environmental, Inc.,
"Site Assessment Report," dated January 4, 1991. Additionally, the attached table summarizes
laboratory analyses for all soil samples collected from soil borings and monitoring wells advanced
at the site. Petroleum hydrocarbons indicated in laboratory analyses of soil samples collected
from MW-3 do not appear to be indicative of soil conditions in that portion of the site, as the
impacted samples were collected from below the historical high groundwater level of
approximately 50 feet in this well (Attachment, Table 1). Supporting this conclusion are the
MW-3 soil samples collected from 10 and 30 feet below grade, which were non-detect for all
analytes.
93470020.DLT
__ __.
