The meeting was held in order
to discuss the additional investigation which PHS/EHD requested in correspondence dated
September 28, 1993.
Background
Two underground storage tanks were removed April 4, 1991. Soil samples collected
at 13 feet beneath the 3,000 gallon diesel tank evidenced contamination up to 720
ppm TPH-diesel, 32 ppb benzene (B), 52 ppb toluene (T) 210 ppb ethylbenzene
(EB) and 150 ppb xylene (X). The highest contamination associated with the diesel
tank was documented from samples collected from the west side of the former tank
location. Soil samples collected at 15' from beneath the 10,000 gallon gasoline tank
evidenced contamination up to 33 ppm TPH-gas, 26 ppb B, 22 ppb T, 25 ppb EB,
and 42 ppb X. The highest contamination associated with the gasoline tank was
documented from samples collected from the east end of the former tank location.
An excavation was initiated on January 16, 1992 and soil and "grab water" samples
were collected on February 3, 1992. The soil samples were collected from the
sidewalls at depths of 8.5 to 12 feet below ground surface (bgs). Groundwater had
seeped into the excavation and was subsequently pumped and improperly disposed
of by Falcon Energy. No contamination was detected in the sidewall samples
collected from the excavation; however, groundwater contamination was evidenced
up to 590 ppm TPH-diesel. The excavation was subsequently backfilled with pea
gravel on April 28, 1992.
A Division of San)oagwn County Health Care Serncca >
