San Joaquin Street
Stockton, CA 95201 II
I
Subject: Babka Distributing Company
1149 W. Weber
Stockton, CA 95201
Dear Ms. Meays:
I
Regarding your letter of June 24 , 1993 hnd 'subsequent telephone
conversations of July 1, 1993 and Augusfl_ 201
1993 , we have the
following comments for your consideration.
We have recommended to our client, the , Bank of Stockton, that
monitoring activities for the 3rd quarter oif 1993 be performed
before the end of September, as requested by ;you. This monitoring
and sampling is to include MW-1, MW-2 , and MW-3 .
II
We have not recommended that monitoring b'e continued for a fourth
quarter. Instead, we recommend that aI de11.
csion on additional
monitoring be postponed until after the results of the 3rd quarter
monitoring have been obtained.
Excavation to remove the contaminated soil took place on January
16-18, 1992 . When excavation was terminated, PID measurements on
excavated soil revealed no evidence of further contamination. Soil
samples were collected from the sidewlalls of the excavation
approximately two weeks later (February 3) , and the sidewalls were
further excavated an additional 2-3 feet at y'pur request in order
to expose _ fresh. soil —and-.- insure that any remaining soil
contamination had not escaped due to exposure and aeration. No
contamination was detected at that time. Samples were also
collected from the excavated soil (samples 11 A1, A2 , A3, A4 ; BSP-
B1, B2; and BSP-C1, C2) ; again, benzene Vlas n1ot detected.
Subsequently, M11-2 and MW-3 were drilled.p No ,,enzene was detected
at a depth of 10 feet, but a concentration of 33 ppb (detection
limit 5 ppb) was detected at 15 feet Alin MW-2 . This depth is
approximately 3 feet below both the mean depth to groundwater and
the depth at which the confirmatory soil samples had been collected
from the excavation sidewal.ls. It is 2 feet below the depth at
which the first soil samples were collected froni beneath the UST's
by Sequoia Analytical in April 1991, and whist'► contained 32 , 10,
and 26 ppb benzene.
1
Full Spectrum Environmental Services• Hydroge logy
