rs
Sampling- Protocols
Drilling
Permits were obtained for the borings and monitoring wells before the drilling beLatl,
The soil borings wer, accomplished using a mobile mounted drilling rig emrtloyinc the-
use
heuse cf a hollow Mr., flight auger no less than 3-314 inch i.d. and 8-718 inch o.d.
All drilling equipment was thoroughly steam cleaned before drilling began to prevent
the introduction of contamination from off site, and between borings to prevent cross
contamination.
The borings were logged (Appendix A) under the direct supervision of a registered
64 engineering geologist using the Unified Soil Classification System. Tile color, texture,
consistency of the earth materials, blow counts, per-
moisture, plasticity (if applicable),
tinent soil or bedrock characteristics, and any evidence of contamination were noted.
All water-bearing zones and the depths at which they were encountered were noted on
those logs.
All borings were drilled in such a manner as to prevent cross contamination between
strata. Exploratory soil borings within the unsaturated zone were backfilled with a f:vc
percent(5%) Bentonite and cement grout with a Bentonite plug at the base.
`t=,
The cuttings from the drilling operation were containerized on site &—ing drilling for
proper disposition. The proper method of disposal is dependent upon results of labo-a-
tory analysis; this disposal is the responsibility of the client-unless other arrangements
have been made.
Well (,"onslructiolt
l All materials used in well construction were thoroughly cleaned prior to introduction
into the boring. A Bentonite grout was placed at the bottom of the boring as necessary.
After the seal had been allowed to set long enough to support the weight of the casing,
a two inch 12") diameter well casing (PVC) with end cap and factory perforations for
placement in the saturated zone (taking into account seasonal variation) was placed in
the boring. The screen and filter pack sizes are as noted in the well construction draw-
ing. The easing and end caps were threaded; no PVC cement was used. The :filter pack
ick
extends 4-112' above the perforated eche filter erack followed by a cement groritonite seal two to six fect ut tothe
was placed in the annular space above P
-- - ---. --- -----surfsre._Seal_and filter pack elevations may vary based oil the underlying geology.
1'5
