However, the aquifer properties at each
well vary greatly from those measured at adjacent wells. The grain size characteristics
4.
and thickness of Sand 1 vary greatly across the site. It is not surprising then, that the
aquifer properties of this sand would vary greatly across the site. Because of this fact, it
would not be proper to assign an average T and S to the Sand I aquifer at this site.
MEDIAL EXCAvATIONiSOILS CON AMINATION
During February of 1991, the soils which were contaminated by the LUST release, at
this site, were removed for remediation by re-excavation. Approximately 2,000 yards3
of soil were removed from the excavation.
The limits of the contaminated soils to be excavated were defined by exploratory
# trenching and side wall sampling. The general outline of the contamination had been
defined by a soil vapor survey several months before. A report detailing the results of
this survey was submitted to San Joaquin County in June of 1990.
A map and cross sections of the exploratory trench is presented oil Plates 4, 5 and 6. A
map of the remedial excavation is presented as Plate 7.
Definition of the limits of the contaminated soils was complicated, somexl•`at, by soil
discoloration due to the presence of native and human deposited carbonae material
E (peat and wood debris) found during the course of the excavation. Because or this, a
large number of sidewall samples were taken to define the contamination limits. A
tabular summary of the sample results is presentee[ in Table 2.
s;
