' Union Ice Company <br /> 1320 West Weber Avenue,Stockton, California July 12, 1994 <br /> Phase IVRemedaation Report of Findings Page⢠3 <br /> Rio Vista, California, (Contractors' License No 279646) pumped and hauled 17,600 gallons <br /> of water on March 31, 1993, and 4,600 gallons on April 1, 1993 for a total of 22,200 gallons <br /> The water was shipped to and accepted by Refinery Service, Patterson, California (Appendix <br />' F) <br /> 3.1 Soil Sampling <br /> All soil sampling equipment was thoroughly cleaned with TSP (trisodium phosphate) <br /> before and between sampling to prevent cross contamination Soil samples m the <br /> excavation were taken with brass tubes, driven into the sidewalls and the bottom of the <br /> excavation The number of samples was determined by the size of the excavation <br /> The soil samples did not have head space and were immediately sealed in their liners <br /> using aluminum foil-lined plastic caps <br /> Soil samples collected for analysis were analyzed using EPA method 8020 for BTX&E <br /> I (benzene, toluene, xylenes, and ethyl benzene) compounds, and EPA method <br /> 5030/Modified 8015 for total petroleum hydrocarbons-gasoline The muumum <br /> detection limits used for each analyte were 5 0 ug/kg for BTX&E, and 2 5 mg/kg for <br /> gasoline analyses were conducted by Mobile Chem Labs, Inc , which was on-site and <br /> provided a turn-around time of approximately 45 minutes for each sample Mobile <br /> Chem Labs is a State-certified laboratory located in Martinez, California <br /> Soil samples of the bioremediated soils were analyzed using EPA method 8020 for <br /> BTX&E (benzene, toluene, xylenes, and ethyl benzene) compounds, and EPA method <br /> 5030 Modified 8015 for total petroleum hydrocarbons-gasoline, and EPA method <br /> 3550/Modified 8015 for total petroleum hydrocarbons - diesel The minimum <br /> detection limits used for each analyte were 5 0 ug/kg for BTX&E, and 1 0 mg/kg for <br /> gasoline, and 5 0 mg/kg for diesel Analyses were conducted by GeoMonitor, Inc, a <br /> State certified laboratory in Hespena, California <br /> 3.2 Groundwater Sampling <br /> A travel blank provided by the laboratory accompanied the sample vials from the time <br /> they were picked up from the lab to the time they were delivered to the lab This <br /> travel blank was listed on the Chain of Custody but was analyzed only if the <br /> corresponding samples were found to contain contaminants <br /> Groundwater samples were taken from the floor of the excavation using disposable <br /> Teflon bailers De-ionized or organic-free water, also provided by the laboratory, was <br /> introduced into the bailer as a final stage of cleaning This water was then gently <br /> poured into sample vials to be used as bailer blanks These bailer blanks were not <br /> tested unless their corresponding samples contained contaminants <br /> I <br />
