June 1996 - 1 - 953-7001002 <br /> 1 INTRODUCTION <br /> This report summarizes the investigation and remediation activities associated with a <br /> petroleum hydrocarbon release at the Union Ice Company facility (the site) located at 1320 <br /> 1 Weber Avenue, in Stockton,California (Figure 1) ) The San Joaquin County Health <br /> Department,Environmental Division (SJCHD) is currently providing regulatory oversight <br /> for the project and they have determined closure criteria for the site This report documents <br /> that the SJCHD's criteria for case closure have been met This revised closure report was <br /> prepared pursuant to comments from the SJCHD dated April 18, 1996 <br /> 11 Site Description <br /> Union Ice Company owns and operated an ice manufacturing and cold and frozen storage <br /> warehouse facility at 1320 West Weber Avenue, in Stockton,California The approximately <br /> 13 acre site is within the City of Stockton(Figure 2) It is located in a portion of the S 1/2, <br /> Section 10, Township 1 North,Range 6 East It is bordered on the south and west by the <br /> Mormon Slough and to the North by the Stockton Deep Water Channel (WHF, 1992) The <br /> site is relatively flat,with an average elevation of about 10 feet above mean sea level Most <br /> ' of the site is covered by buildings and asphalt pavement with the exception of an <br /> approximately 13,000 square foot area <br /> 12 Stratigraphy <br /> The site is underlain by Holocene Age fluvial deposits of the San Joaquin River The <br /> stratigraphy of the site is characterized as interbedded clay/silt units with sand/gravel units <br /> (WHF, 1994) The uppermost clay/silt unit is a red,brown clay to silty clay with local <br /> carbonaceous fragments and peat lenses and extends from the surface to depths between 15 <br /> to 17 feet This unit is underlain by a fine to coarse-gramed sand with local gravel units from <br /> depths between 15 to 35 feet below ground surface (bgs) This sand unit is underlain by a <br /> stiff uniform blue-gray stiff clay to depths of 50 to 58 feet bgs The boring log for well <br /> MW-4D indicates that this clay unit is underlain by a silty sand of unknown thickness <br /> (WHF, 1994) The second water-bearing zone is a sand that extends from 50 to 58 bgs to at <br /> least the maximum depth explored of 615 feet i <br /> 13 Groundwater <br /> The shallow groundwater flow direction is to the southeast The depth to groundwater at <br /> the site has ranged from approximately 7 to 13 feet over the period April 1990 to September <br /> ' 1995 (WHF, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, and 1994,Levine-Fricke,1993, 1995,and Golder, 1995) <br /> The regional groundwater flow direction, is also to the southeast(URS, 1989) The historical <br /> summary of depth to groundwater is presented on Table 1 Potentiometric Maps are <br /> presented in Appendix A The site is bordered by the Stockton Deep Water Channel to the <br /> north and west and the Mormon Slough on the east and south <br /> 8537001 R01(7!3!96) Golder Associates <br />
