r
Ms. Mary Ways Page 4
May 24, 1994
prior to shipment to the laboratory. The completed COC form will list all the
samples contained in the cooler and will specify what analytical parameters are
requested for each sample.
BoringGGrouting_ Upon completion of soil sampling, the borings will be
grouted using a mix of approximately 1 sack (94 pounds) Portland cement,
approximately 5 pounds powdered bentonite and approximately 8 gallons water.
The bentonite powder and water will be mixed prior to the addition of cement.
Storage of Cuttings., Upon completion of the drilling and sampling activity, all
cuttings will be collected and stored on site, in labeled drums or other
appropriate containers'. Also, any fluids from the borings displaced by the
placement of the grout or from the evacuation process will be collected in
labeled drums or appropriate containers.
Decontamination Procedures. Sampling equipment (i.e., continuous soil
sampler, liners) will be decontaminated between individual sampling points to
minimize potential cross-contamination. Drilling equipment (i.e., augers, drill
stems, drill bits, other downhole equipment) will be decontaminated between
borings to minimize cross-contamination. The drill rig will be decontaminated
between each boring location if ground water is encountered, or if the working
end of the rig is visibly soiled.
Analytical Methodologies
Each soil sample will be analyzed for TPH (Gasoline) by EPA Method 8015
Modified and benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene, and xylene by EPA Method 8020.
In addition, one soil sample will be collected from each tank site and submitted
for analyses for pH, Total Organic Carbon, and biologic plate count. All analyses
will be performed by a California-certified laboratory according to the published
EPA approved procedures, including adherence to specified holding times.
Proposed Schedule and Closing
ERM-West expects that the field activities described in this workplan can be
completed within one to two days and can be scheduled within the month of
June 1994, pending receipt of PHS/EHD approval. Assuming a standard turn
around time for laboratory analyses of two weeks, a letter report presenting the
results of the additional characterization can be submitted to PHS/EHD by
August 1994.
