V sud
1325 West Weber Page 2
Closing
Thank you for submittal of the disposal documents with the letter of transmittal from ERM-West
dated May 24, 1994.
Pro sal for Additional Soil Characterization
The work plan proposed six soil borings to be drilled to a total depth of approximately 15 feet below ground
surface. Three soil borings will be located to investigate residual soil contamination in the areas of former
tank#1 (1515 Weber)and former tank#2(1325 Weber). A maximum of three soil samples will be collected
for TPH-gas and BTEX laboratory analysis from each boring. Additionally, one sample from each former tank
location will be submitted for laboratory analysis for Ph, total organic carbon, and biological plate count to
estimate the biological activity in the soil and characterize site specific conditions to aid in the determination
of possible environmental fate of residual contaminants.
Site #1, 1515 Weber
Based on field observations and analytical results, PHS/EHD requests additional investigation of the area
between 1BS2W19 and IBN11W16. PHS/EHD also suggests that should contamination be observed, that soil
samples be collected more frequently, than inferred in the work plan. Of particular interest may be the soil
between 10 and 15 feet below ground surface. The proposed and requested investigation should define the
extent of soil contamination and should enable PHS/EHD to determine if additional investigation and/or
remediation will be required or if closure evaluation is warranted.
Site #2, 1325 Weber
Based on field observations and analytical results, PHS/EHD requests additional investigation of the area in
between W12N14 and W5N18,in the area of E2N6, and inside the building north and east of the proposed
soil boring in the building. PHS/EHD also suggests that should contamination be observed, that soil samples
be collected more frequently, than inferred in the work plan. Of particular interest may be the soil between
10 and 15 feet below ground surface. The proposed and requested investigation should define the extent of
soil contamination and should enable PHS/EHD to determine if additional investigation and/or remediation
will be required or if closure evaluation is warranted.
Please submit a revised site map, a drilling permit application, and $89 fee to PHS/EHD. Field work may
commence upon issuance of the drilling permit. Please provide PHS/EHD 48 hours notice prior to initiating
drilling activities.
If you have any comments or wish to schedule an inspection, please contact Mary Meays, Senior REHS, of
my staff at (209) 937-9708.
Donna Heran, REHS, Director
Environmental Health Division
Lflww-A
Mary Meays, Senior REHS Diane M Hinson, REHS
Site Mitigation Unit Supervisor
MM11325WW
C.* Elizabeth Thayer, CVRWQCB
c: Kimberly Brandt, Catellus Development
c: Jill Quillin, ERM-West
