I p KLEINFELDER
2 BACKGROUND
A 2,000-gallon underground storage tank was removed from the west side of a building at
1515 W. Weber Avenue,Stockton (Plate 1) on November 16, 1988. The tenant of this site
is Farmer's Bag and Supply. Santa Fe Pacific Realty Company owns the property.
On November 16, 1988,a soil sample was collected from the bottom of the tank excavation
at a depth of approximately 12 feet below the ground surface. Ground water was
encountered during the sampling, therefore, a sample of the water in the excavation was
collected. The samples were collected and analyzed by FGL Environmental. Chemical
analysis of the soil and water samples detected the presence of benzene, toluene,
ethylbenzene, xylene (BTEX), and total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH) at concentrations
typically requiring regulatory response. Total lead, which is a constituent of leaded
gasoline, was detected in soil at 6 mg/kg, which appears to be within the range of normal
background soil concentrations. Lead also was detected in the water sample at 2.6 mg/1.
Ethylene dibromide (EDB), another gasoline constituent, was not detected in these
_ samples at or above the laboratory reporting limits. The analytical results for these
samples are included in Appendix A.
Based on these results, EHE Construction, Inc., acting as an agent for the property owner,
contracted with Kleinfelder to assess the extent of contamination.
f
F_
ry
F15-90-101 2
Copyright 1990 Kleinfelder, Inc.
