SECTION 2
SOIL AND GROUNDWATER
IIVVEsTIGATION WORKPLAN
Thioposed work for further evaluation of sail
andsgroundw tesection lr condines itions ns of the former underground storage tank
site.
Scope of Work
The groundwater flow direction under the tank site was determined
through water level measurements in three monitoring wells.
Unfortunately, none of the wells were situated immediately
downgradient of the former location of the tants. ERM-West proposes
to remedy the lath of downgradient information through the
construction of two additional monitoring wells. One well will be
located within the perimeter of the former tank location and the
second well will be located within approximately 10 feet of the tank
location and hydraulically downgradient of the tank site(Figure 1-2).
Monitoring Well Construction
The monitoring wells will be drilled utilizing a truck-mounted drill
rig equipped with hollow-stem auger. Prior to the start of each well,
the augers will be cleaned and decontaminated by the use of steam.
Soil samples will be collected at five-foot intervals during drilling
using a split-spoon s-npler equipped with pre-cleaned brass liners.
The sampler will be cleaned prior to each use in an A.lcone so beton
and clean water rinse. The maximum depth of each boring
willfeet. Samples will be visually classified in the field according to the
Unified Soil Classification System. an organic vapor meter -,vili be
used to screen a portion of the sampled material through head space
measurements. Sample descriptions, head space measurements,
observations, etc., will be recorded along with the depth interval of
the sample on a logging form.
.. ...--. ...-- .-.- ......... -... .---- . - ...- Soil.samples-retained..in brass tubes will be secured by covering the
_ ends of the tubes with Teflon film and plastic caps.-- Samples Will
then be labeled. The label will contain a unique sample number, the
__ 2-1
