r7NLS§3.3, SSS§5.3, 5.4. Table 1 below summarizes the soil physical and chemicalteristics at the proposed soil-effluent interface of 42 inches, the intermediate depth of 12 ft
and the seepage pit depth of 25 ft:
TABLE 1
SOIL PROFILE CHARACTERISTICS AND
ANALYTICAL TEST RESULTS
SAMPLE DEPTH AND SOIL SOIL NITRATE- pH AND
(SAMPLE NUMBER ON CLASSIFICATION NITROGEN CONTENT CATION EXCHANGE CAPACITY
TEST RESULT FORM) In meq/100g
42 IN DEPTH Clay Loam 8 ppm NO,-N 8.2 27.6 meq/I00g
12 FT DEPTH Loam 9 ppm NO,-N 8.2 20.0 meq/1009
25 FT DEPTH Sandy Clay Loam 9 ppm NO-N 8.2 15.5 me /100
C. PERCOLATION TEST RESULTS
SSS§ 6.2. To assess the permeability at the test depths which corresponds with the septic system
structures of leachlines, sumps and seepage pits, the percolation test borings were completed in
the locations depicted on the Site Plan found in Appendix D. In addition, an unofficial perc test
was conducted at 54 inches(4.5 ft)to determine permeability at this depth since augering became
slower.
SSS§ 6.3. After drilling, the sidewall of the shallow borings were scored with a pry-bar to open
potentially smeared soil surfaces that may have occurred due to the clay soil. The deeper borings
were too deep to score. Two inches of fine gravel was placed at the bottom and three-inch
perforated PVC pipe was inserted in each test boring. After these procedures, the borings were
pre-saturated with 12 inches of water approximately 24 hrs prior to the start of testing.
SSS§ 6.4, 6.5. On March 22, 2019, percolation testing commenced at 0830 hrs. No standing
water was observed in any of the three test borings after the 24-hr soak period in. Consequently,
EHD Perc Test Procedure#2 was conducted for all three perc tests. Testing was done over a four-
hour period to induce maximum soil saturation.
The test results indicate a perc rate of 31.3 min/in for the 42-inch test boring,41.7 min/in for the 4.5
ft test boring(unofficial test), 19.3 min/in for the 12 ft boring and 6.8 min/in for the 25 ft boring. A
perc rate of 60 min/inch or faster is considered acceptable for shallow tests and 30 min/in or faster
for deeper tests. A summary of the perc test results with corresponding application rates in gallons
of effluent accepted per square foot of soil per day are illustrated in Table 2:
Page-3-
Chesney Consulting
