results show that the constituents of concern are below action levels,
the site will proceed to closure
If the monitoring well data show that residual levels of constituents
are still present in the ground water at one or both of the sites, the
concentration reduction achieved will be evaluated to assess whether
continued extraction is likely to result in the desired cleanup within
the required time period If the evaluation indicates that additional
treatment is required, biological treatment of the ground water will be
instituted If follow-on work is required, the additional work will be
defined in cooperation with the EHD
tThe extracted ground water will require sampling prior to disposal Per
the Stockton Municipal Utilities Department (MUD) guidelines, the
' extracted water in the open-top tank will be analyzed for volatile and
semivolatile organic constituents by EPA Methods 624 and 625, and
BTEX compounds by EPA Method 602 The pH of the water will be
measured in the field The well and tank ground water samples will be
accompanied by a trip blank
' Ground Water Disppgal
Once the water in the tanks has been analyzed, a letter will be sent to
Stockton MUD requesting permission to discharge the water to the
sanitary sewer The letter will include a description of the nature and
proposed quantity of the discharge, the time period of discharge, and
will include the analytical data Once approval to discharge has been
obtained from Stockton MUD, the water will be pumped out of the
' open tank to the near-by sanitary sewer manhole The pump rate will
be set sufficiently low to avoid overloading the sewer line capacity
Site Closurg
Once the aeration and ground water extraction programs have been
successfully completed, the site can proceed to closure The available
data will be analyzed to evaluate the cleanup achieved, and to define
any remaining affected media The site closure report will detail the
field activities conducted, and the results of the cleanup efforts
' Once the site closure report has been completed, it will be submitted to
EHD with a request for site closure
5-9
I
