obtained within the four weeks allowed for preparation Similarly, we
have assumed that the subcontractors can be mobilized in September
and will be available at the scheduled time
Task 2: Excavation and Bachf filling
Because only a small amount of soil will require excavation, the actual
excavation should be completed quickly However, because shoring
may be required, a one-day contingency has been allowed for the
excavation process Backfilling is expected to require one to two days
Task • Aeration
' As described in Section 5 the aeration process will consist of two steps
the initial start-up period (where approximately 120 cubic yards of soil
will be added to the soil already being aerated on a daily basis), and the
actual aeration period The start-up period is expected to last no more
than 10 days, and the initial aeration period has been set at four weeks
Two two-week contingency periods have been allowed for the aeration
process, because the weather will have a significant impact on how
quickly the soil dries and how quickly the constituents of concern are
remediated This estimate also includes the time required to analyze
confirmation samples from the aerated soil
It should be noted that this time estimate assumes that the aeration can
be completed prior to the full on-set of the rainy season, if this is not
the case, the project would have to be shut down for approximately
four to five months? (late November through mid-March), and the
' schedule would be delayed correspondingly
Task 4a Ground Water Extraction
The ground water extraction program would occur concurrently with
the aeration program The actual ground water extraction process is
scheduled to occur immediately after the excavation and backfilling
have been completed It has been assumed that the extraction process
can be completed in one week Because the excavation process will
likely remove some soils below the ground water table, a greater level
of cleanup will result if ground water extraction is delayed until that
' removal has been completed
7 During the main portion of the rainy season, it is likely that the rains will be so frequent
that the aeration time will be extremely limited
i
6-2
