Ibgs. Soil and ground water samples collected during the <br /> investigation were analyzed for TPH, BTEX, and organic lead. <br /> The results of the soil and ground water samples collected at the time <br /> of this investigation were reported to the EHD in May 1991 and are <br /> summarized in Table 4-2. The entire report is presented in <br />' Appendix H. <br /> 1Eaveshigation . <br /> Findings from investigations performed at Site #1 have resulted in <br />' the characterization of soil types, as well as the depth to and direction <br /> of ground water flow. Laboratory analyses of soil and ground water <br /> samples have resulted in the characterization of the nature of the <br />' release, including its lateral and vertical occurrence in both soils and <br /> ground water. <br /> The information collected during the construction of monitoring <br />' wells and soil borings indicate that the site is underlain by clays and <br /> sands. Figure 4-2 presents a cross section of the former tank location <br /> at Site #1. Semi-consolidated clayey soils extend from the ground <br />' surface to a depth of approximately S to 10 feet bgs. Below the clays, <br /> unconsolidated, fine-to-coarse-grained sands extend to a depth of at <br /> least 30 feet bgs. <br /> Depicted on the cross section is an area of fill soils associated with the <br /> former tank. Apparently, the petroleum-affected soils around the <br />' tank were excavated and removed from the site at the time the tank <br /> was removed. The fill material consists of clayey soils similar to the <br /> surrounding native clayey soils. <br /> Ground water at Site #1 is confined, and the potentiometnc surface <br /> occurs at a depth of approximately 6 feet bgs. The measured flow <br /> gradient vanes due to tidal water level fluctuations in the nearby <br />' Deep Water Channel. However, the overall flow direction over time <br /> has been generally consistent toward the south-southwest (away <br /> from the Channei)2.
