Ms Mary Meays Page 2 <br /> July 14, 1991 <br /> . was cleaned and decontaminated with an Alconox® solution followed by a <br /> distilled water rinse Water from decontamination procedures was <br /> retained in 55-gallon drums and stored on site Latex type gloves were <br /> worn while handling sampling equipment and sample bottles Bailer cord <br /> was replaced before sampling at each well location <br /> ab oratory Analyte <br /> Water samples collected at the site were sent under chain of custody to <br /> Sequoia Analytical, Inc , Concord, California, a State of California Certified <br /> laboratory At the laboratory, the samples were analyzed according to the <br /> following test procedures <br /> • Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons as Gasoline (TPH-G) -- <br /> EPA Method 8015-M, <br /> • Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons as Diesel (TPH-D) <br /> (Former Tank Site 42 Only) -- EPA Method 8015-M; <br /> • Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene and Xylenes (BTE&X) -- <br /> EPA Method 8020, <br />. • Total Lead -- EPA Method 239 2, <br /> • Organic Lead -- DHS Specified Method, and <br /> • Ethylenedibromide (EDB) -- DHS Specified Method <br /> Laboratory results are summarized in Tables 2 and 3 Laboratory reports <br /> and chain of custody are attached As part of routine QA/QC procedures, a <br /> travel blank was included with the collected samples and sent to the <br /> laboratory Analyses of the travel blank indicated that all constituents <br /> analyzed were below detection limits <br /> A "field blank" was prepared in the field during the second quarter <br /> sampling event using distilled water, and sent to the laboratory along with <br /> all of the other samples Laboratory results, however, indicated detectable <br /> concentrations of BTEX compounds After rechecking field notes, it was <br /> discovered that these anomalous results may have been due to the field <br /> blank preparation process The distilled water used to prepare the field <br /> blank was transferred from its original plastic container into a laboratory- <br /> provided amber glass sample container for temporary storage <br /> Subsequently, this distilled water was used to fill a VOA vial and labeled as <br /> a field blank, although it was not truly representative <br /> The glass container used for interim water storage evidently contained <br /> traces of petroleum constituents None of the water stored in this container <br />
