SECTION 4
TANK REMOVALS
This section discusses the removal of two underground storage tanks
located at 1325 and 1541 West Weber Avenue. It describes the
preparation for removal, the removal of the tanks, the laboratory
analyses, and the findings.
Preparation
Preliminary work included: preparing an Underground Storage
Tank Closure Plan; preparing a site-specific Health and Safety Plan
' (Appendix E); and retaining a contractor responsible for tank
removal. Preparatory work also included a tank survey, obtaining
the necessary permits, and locating underground utilities.
Tank Ew=
Because as-built information was lacking, the tank saes were
surveyed by Spectrum Environmental Geophysics on June 19, 1991.
Spectrum was able to precisely locate the tanks, determine their
' orientation, size, depth, and approximate the quantity of fluid
remaining in the tanks (Appendix F)
The survey indicated that the storage tank at 1325 West Weber
Avenue was adjacent to the warehouse as depicted in Figure 4-1 The
tank had a capacity of approximately 500 gallons with about 300
gallons of unknown product remaining. The top of the tank was
approximately 3 112 feet below the ground surface and the bottom was
at? 112 feet.
The storage tank located at 1541 West Weber Avenue is shown in
Figure 4-2. The tank had a capacity of 2,000 gallons, with
approximately 100 gallons of product remaining, tentatively
identified as gasoline. The top of the tank was approximately 3 112
feet below the ground surface; the bottom was at a depth of
` approximately 9 112 feet.
I
4-1
