SECTION 2 <br /> BACKGROUND INFORMATION <br /> 1 <br /> This section discusses the general setting and history of the property <br /> ' and provides information on the local geography, geology, and <br /> hydrogeology <br /> Site Location and History <br /> ' TheP P Yro ert is situated within the port area of the City of Stockton, <br /> San Joaquin County, California (Figure 2-1) The Stockton Deep Water <br /> Channel bounds the property immediately to the north Ground <br /> surface elevations range from a few feet above sea level along the <br /> Stockton Channel waterfront to approximately 10 feet above mean sea <br /> ' level along West Weber Avenue <br /> Limited historical information is available for the property The <br /> earliest record, circa 1917, indicates that the area was a rail yard owned <br /> by the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad By 1963, the rail yard <br /> had been replaced by warehouses Currently, the warehouses are <br /> ' collectively under the ownership of Catellus, formerly Santa Fe Pacific <br /> Realty Company Each warehouse is currently under lease to an <br /> individual business enterprise. The warehouse at Former Tank Site #1 <br /> ' was vacant during this investigation The warehouse at Former Tank <br /> Site #2 was occupied by Graphics Contractors during this investigation <br /> Geology and Hydrogeology <br /> This section provides a general description of the regional and site- <br /> specific geology and hydrogeology associated with Former Tank Sites <br /> #1 and #2 <br /> Geology <br /> The West Weber property lies within the Great Valley geomorphic <br /> province of California The Valley is an asymmetric synclinorium <br /> containing up to 60,000 feet of sediment along the western margin <br /> The sediments consist of marine and nonmarine late Triassic to early <br /> 2-1 <br />
