Environmental <br /> Mr Harlin Knoll Resources <br /> Page 3 February 2000 Management <br /> Pa <br /> borehole) will be used to drill out the grout seal and casing After the <br /> grout has hardened, the remaining borehole will be covered with native <br /> soil <br /> In the event that any of the wells have experienced casing failure or <br /> inordinately high amounts of silting, such wells will be drilled out <br /> instead of being pressure grouted Under this technique, prior to <br /> drilling, a steel guide rod will be inserted in the well to ensure that the <br /> drill stem stays centered on the well Hollow-stem augers (with a <br /> diameter equivalent to or larger than those originally used to drill the <br /> well borehole) will then be used to drill out the grout seal, casing, and <br /> filter pack The abandonment borehole will extend into native material <br /> approximately 2 feet further than the original borehole The overdrilled <br /> borehole will be backfilled with grout consisting of neat cement The <br /> grout will be placed with a tremmie pipe as the augers are removed from <br /> the borehole to within 3 feet of the ground surface After the grout has <br /> hardened, the remaining borehole will be covered with native soil <br /> Waste Management Procedures <br /> Drill cuttings (if any) generated during well abandonment procedures <br /> will be stored on site, sampled, and disposed in accordance with <br /> applicable state and federal laws Steam clean rinsate and water <br /> displaced during well abandonment will also be stored on site, sampled, <br /> and disposed in accordance with applicable state and federal Iaws <br /> SCHEDULE <br /> ERM proposes to proceed with the abandonment of the ten monitoring <br /> wells as soon as practical after approval of this Workplan by the <br /> PHS/EHD and after notice of the CVRWQCB's concurrence with Site <br /> closure <br /> • <br />
