Union Ice Company January 26, .19,93
1320 Weber Street, Stockton, California
Work Plan to Install Monitroring Wells Page 3
The on site geologist will log the soil borings and provide well logs with the report to
the RWQCB.
5.0 SAMPLING
All soil sampling equipment will be thoroughly steam cleaned before and between
sampling to prevent cross contamination. Relatively undisturbed soil samples will be
obtained every five feet (5') using a modified California split spoon sampling device
with brass liners. The sampler will be driven by a 140 pound hammer repeatedly
falling 30 inches. The blow counts necessary to drive the sampler will be recorded for
each 6 inch interval to help evaluate the consistencies of the materials. These samples
will be analyzed for Total chromium using the California (WET) testing method. on an
atomic absorption machine.
Water samples will be obtained after the wells are developed. Development will
consist of pumping approximately 3 to 5 well volumes of water from each well, or until.
the water is free of sediments, .and the pH, conductivity, and temperature have
stabilized. Tlie samples will be tested for Electrical Condiuctivity and Total Chrondum,
using a conductivity meter and an atomic absorption machine.
Soils from the drilling will be contained in 55 gallon drums and labeled hazardous
materials until the sample results are known. If the soils are found to contain
chromium, the soils will be manifested and disposed of at a class I disposal. facility.
Water from well development and sampling activities will also be contained and labeled
as hazardous until the analytical results are known. If the results indicate chromium
contamination WHF will recommend a complete plume definition, as well as a ground
water -treatment plan. The plan will contain the necessary ingredients to clean the
ground water as well as deal with the containerized water from sampling activities.
6.0 PERMITS
WHF will obtain the well drilling permits required by San Joaquin County prior tc
beginning the well drilling. As a courtesy, Y'HF will also provide a copy of this work
plan to San Joaquin County's Environmental Health Departments Hazardous Waste
