WORK PLAN
THERMO KING STOCKTON
1950 East Miner Road
Stockton, California
Terracon Project No. 67047008
Terracon completed a Phase I Environmental Site Assessment report dated September 22,
2004 for the property owners of the Thermo King facility located at 1950 East Miner Road in
Stockton, California. Based on site observations and interviews, collection of a subsurface soil
sample from the truck wash area was recommended. Potential contaminants are petroleum
and VOCs and the laboratory analyses recommended were TPH by EPA Method 8015 and
VOCs by EPA Method 8260. A Site Plan is attached.
Terracon has contracted with a California licensed well driller to advance one direct push type
(Geoprobe) soil boring in the wash rack area and to collect one soil sample from the boring. A
site specific Health and Safety Plan will be prepared for the site activities. A minimum of 72
hours prior to drilling activities the drilling location will be outlined with white paint and
Underground Service Alert will be notified to clear utilities at the drilling location.
Soils recovered from the boring will be monitored for staining, odor, and OVM readings. The soil
horizons in the boring from the ground surface to total depth will be screened in the Feld with a
Thermo Environmental Instruments Inc. Model 580BTM photoionization Organic Vapor Meter
(OVM). The soil screening will be performed to identify the potential presence of contamination
through visual observations and volatile organic compound screening with the OVM.
Representative soil material for the screening will be collected from the Geoprobe soil samples.
The anticipated maximum depth of the boring is 20 feet below ground surface. The soil sample
will be collected by one of two methods. Method one will be to cut an approximately six-inch
section from the 4-foot acetate tube and seal the ends with caps and tape. Method two will be
to transfer soil from the acetate tube into 4-ounce laboratory sample jars. All samples will be
labeled and preserved on ice at an approximate temperature of four degrees Celsius.
Proper chain of custody protocols will be followed throughout. The soil sample will be delivered to
a California certified analytical laboratory for analysis for Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons by EPA
Method 8015B and for VOCs by EPA Method 8260.
After completion of the drilling and sampling activities the boring will be backfilled with neat
cement. Any soil cuttings generated by the drilling activities will be containerized in a fifty-five
gallon drum for subsequent off-site disposal with a licensed waste disposal contractor pending the
receipt of laboratory analysis.
1
