SAMPLING PROTOCOL
Page: 2
used.
The cuttings from the drilling operation will be
containerized in plastic 55-gallon drums and stored on-site
for later treatment and/or disposal. The treatment/disposal
will remain the responsibility of the client unless other
arrangements have been made. It is intended that the
cuttings be incorporated into the soil treatment program and
abandoned in place after treatment.
WELL CONSTRUCTION AND DEVELOPMENT
All materials used in well construction will be
thoroughly cleaned prior to introduction into the boring.
A 2 *o-&' inch OD well casing (PVC) with and end cap, factory
perforated for placement into the saturated zone, will be
placed in the boring. The perforated interval shall extend
ten feet below and five feet above the saturated zone. The
casing and end caps will be threaded, no PVC cement will be
used. The filter pack will extend two feet above the
perforated zone. A seal of bentonite granules two feet thick
will be placed in the annular space above the filter pack,
followed by a bentonite slurry to grade. All filter pack and
well seals will be tremiied thrugh the auger as necessary.
A locking cap will be placed on top of the well casing
inside a water-tight well box cemented into place. All wells
will be labeled on the exterior of the well head containment
structure with well type and identification number. On the
interior, the label will contain well type, identification
number, depth, and the perforation interval. Monitoring
wells will be developed by airlifting with compressed
nitrogen, pumped using suitable pumping equipment or bailed
until clear water is removed. Water removed from the well
during development and subsequent evacuations will be
contained within 55-gallon drums for later treatment and/or
disposal.
SAMPLING
All soil and groundwater samples will be properly
labeled with project number, date collected, and sample
identification number. All samples will be handled using
standard chain of custody procedures. Field records will
document the above information and other significant data,
such as names of on-site personnel, sampling methods, date
and time of sampling, the number of well volumes removed
before sampling, and any preservatives added or filtration
performed on samples.
The samples will be refrigerated and packaged
