(AEI) on your behalf. To comply with
Resolution 2009-0042, recently adopted by the California State Water Resources
Control Board (SWRCB), your monitoring well sampling requirements have been
reduced further to the following schedule:
• Semi-annually - Monitoring wells MW-3, MW-7, MW-8 MW-10, MW-11,
VEW-2, RW-2, MW-4A and MW-12; and
• Annually — MW-2, MW-5, MW-6, MW-9, MW-13, MW-14, MW-16, and
MW-17.
The EHD has reviewed Monitoring Well Installation Workplan (WP), dated
12 June 2009, in which AEI proposed to install a groundwater monitoring well in
the area of CPT2, screened from 60 to 80 feet below surface grade (bsg) to
assess for total petroleum hydrocarbons previously detected in grab groundwater
samples collected from those approximate depths in CPT1 and CPT2. The well is
proposed to be constructed with a conductor casing from surface grade to
approximately 52 feet bsg; soil samples are proposed to be collected at 5-foot
intervals to total depth.
The EHD approves installation of the monitoring well with the conductor casing,
but the EHD does not approve of 20-foot screens in monitoring wells set well
below the water table; the EHD recommends setting a 10-foot screen between
approximately 68 and 78 feet bsg to maximize the potential for encountering the
contaminants encountered in CPT1 and CPT2 grab water samples. Also, in view
of the thick saturated sand interval at depth, the EHD recommends forgoing
Work Plan and Monitoring Frequency Reduction Approval Letter 0709
